I am Aayati and even though the photo above has me standing near the Danube, I was born and have lived in India all my life. I have been very lucky to have been able to travel within my country and a little bit outside as well and here I write about any and everything that I feel needs to be written about. I often make really broad connections and I like observing how disparate things come together as I write about them.

I noticed that I have a tendency of reducing creators to creations, i.e. reading "The Razor's Edge" and "The Painted Veil" by Somerset Maugham convinced me that if he had been alive and our paths somehow crossed, I would have had a considerate and understanding friend. After all, with that insight into human nature how could he be anything but an epitome of understanding? But I read about his life (and later when a similar reduction happened about William James after reading his "Varieties of Religious Experience" and I read about his life), and realized that I had let the works entirely colour my perception of the creators. Recently, I started talking to people whose works moved me in an attempt to bridge the gap for myself: the gap between a work and the person who made it. I share some of these conversations here, with the consent of the people whom I've talked to.
